ÁPB helps the community make a green change

“Go green! Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Help your community make
a better change for Mother Earth.
Help put a stop to pollution.”
These are some words many
people say constantly, but yet, they
lack the skill to accomplish it.
It’s well understood that taking
action in making a change in the
community, and obstruct pollution
is almost impossible.
Although it’s difficult to keep
up with these tasks because it’s a
drag, and sometimes people do not
contribute, there are other ways
into making it fun and involving a
whole group of people bring that
change once and for all.
APB has a “Go Green” club
organized by math teacher Peggy
Roach. In the “Go Green” club
students involved help keep a
“pollution free” environment and
community–sweeping streets, picking up trash, beach clean ups, and
many more.
Many of the students there
have joined to actually help the
community but others joined
accidentally like junior Amairany
Cartagena, Secretary Treasure of
the GGC.
“It was an accidental thing. I
went to serve my detention and I
was listening to the conversation
and it sound interesting” she said.
The GGC is not only to go out
clean and come back, its also about
making it fun and involving others
to help as well.
“We go hiking and pick trash
up but also, we remove those
plants on the way that actually are
bad for the environment like roses”
Amairany said.
Students whom are not part
of the GGC at APB have actually
demonstrated their “Green” skills
as well.
“Natali and I have gone to
the beach and clean” junior Daisy
Cuevas said.
She volunteers independently
as a good citizen to maintain a
pollution free environment and to
encourage others to throw away
their trash properly.
“I love it” she said. Cleaning is
not enough though.
Junior Natali Flores said that
pollution can also be stopped by
using less machines that throw out
air that can harm the environment.
“I hang my clothes to dry to
stop pollution and save our oxygen” Natali said.
Not always will one take the
chance or the time to actually stop
what their doing and actually take
in consideration the 3 R’s.
So, what is a technique? Remind
others, take a stand and although
you aren’t physically doing it, your
advocation in encouraging others
is.
APB students and staff have
had the opportunity to be a part
of this change through words and
actions.
Don’t be the bad influence to
others. Be the change, be the word,
and be the encouragement.
Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling is not going to do itself.
