    APB’s 2017 Senior Prom

Prom. A light along the dark tunnel of senior year. Seniors are constantly scrambling around trying to keep grades up, giving presentations, and organizing everything for graduation. This year, was a year of new beginnings. A new principal, new staff, and now a new venue for prom. Prom has typically been done at a banquet hall in Long Beach; however, this year, prom has moved to Glendale. Recently constructed, the L.A. Legacy Banquet Hall housed APB’s 2017 senior prom. Chelsie Zavala, who attended last year’s prom as well as this year’s mentioned that the decorations were better, seeing as they followed the theme. (Apparently many others thought they look good as well; nearing the end of prom, many of the tables were missing centerpieces.) She also stated that the food was definitely an upgrade. “The chicken was dry last year, but this year its really good.” The feeling was mutual for many of the other attendees of prom. A variety of appetizers, fruit, salads, meats, and much more adorned the tables. Parked in the back was also a crepe station and a long line of people waiting for their turn. A photo booth lay waiting in the opposite corner while professional photographers were stationed at the front. The setup was clearly incredible, but it wasn’t easy.

Student council had some obstacles choosing a new venue for prom. They knew they wanted something different, but had lots of things to consider: mainly, the budget. Dasie Gervatcho stated that “We must have looked at about seven venues before we found this one. We also had to think about other things like food choices and ” Their hard work really showed

People seemed to be having fun all throughout the night. When asked if he was enjoying himself, Ivan Isidoro responded, “Of course I’m having fun! My friends and I are looking hot and slaying hard. We are gonna remember this.” This was true for many others. Everyone killed it at prom, looking fine and fresh when they walked through the door. The beginning was a bit slow as people were talking their time eating and waiting for friends to arrive. Then, the music was pumping and people were hitting the dance floor hard. A variety of music was played, from cumbia to rap to zapateado. “The music was pretty lit. The annoying thing was the DJ sometimes remixed when the song was getting good, and he didn’t play everything I wanted but I danced anyway. I still had lots of fun.”  Overall the reviews were great. Most had an amazingly positive experience at prom. In the end it wasn’t about how much you paid for a prom outfit or what ride you came in; it was about the amazing memories you made with the people you care about. Senior year is stressful enough. We will transition into a new chapter of our lives where we are released into the world to act as adults, but for one last night we are able to release our inhibitions and have fun like kids.
