— Oct. 6, 2025 — The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 1-0 on Monday night at Citizens Bank Park to win the National League Division Series, advancing to the NL Championship Series.“
It was a tense game from start to finish,” Dodgers infielder Kiké Hernández said after the win. “Both teams battled, and every play mattered.”
The game was tied 0-0 entering the top of the seventh inning. With one out and runners on second and third — Freddie Freeman at second and Teoscar Hernández at third — Kiké Hernández stepped to the plate.
He grounded a sharp ball to shortstop Trea Turner, who threw home as Teoscar broke for the plate. Freeman advanced to third and Kiké reached first as Teoscar slid into home at nearly the same moment the tag came down. The home-plate umpire ruled him safe, and the Phillies challenged the call.
After a close review, the umpires ruled that Teoscar’s left hand touched home plate just before catcher J.T. Realmuto applied the tag. The call on the field stood, giving the Dodgers a 1-0 lead.
Phillies manager Rob Thomson addressed the play afterward in his postgame press conference.
“I was upset, but if the umpire saw the play carefully like they should, then they made the right call,” Thomson said. “You can’t be upset with the call because they’re professionals at the end of the day.”
The Phillies threatened in the bottom of the eighth. Max Kepler led off with a triple to right field and scored on Trea Turner’s single to center, cutting into the Dodgers’ lead. Kyle Schwarber struck out swinging, and Bryce Harper ended the inning with a flyout to center.
Turner’s timely hit gave the Phillies a brief spark, but the offense couldn’t keep the rally going. The next two batters were retired in order, leaving the Dodgers ahead heading into the ninth.
“We just stayed locked in and trusted each other,” Kiké Hernández said. “It’s about believing in the team and staying focused until the last out.”
The Dodgers held on to win 1-0, eliminating the Phillies and earning a trip to the National League Championship Series.
