Softball girls first game

By: Angel Reyes

Striiiiiiiiiike you’re out!! The girls softball team was started on december 2017. Karina, the coach of the team, has been playing softball since she was 5 years old. Currently, there are 24 girls on the team, the newbies have been practicing since the beginning of the year.

The girls practice Monday, Wednesday, and Friday where they go over catching, throwing, and many other softball related mechanics and drills. The girls prepared for the game by working on things they felt they could improve on; this includes catching and communication between players.

Before the big game some players expressed how they felt before the game. Adriana Ramos said, “I was excited but also super nervous since it was our first game.” Sandra Arellano said “ I was very nervous and scared of losing by a lot.” Kimberly Garcia was also nervous and felt “we weren’t as ready as we thought we were gonna be.” Overall the team felt very nervous for their first real game.

Thursday, November 15, 2018 the APB softball team had their first game.  They lost by 1 point, the score was 9-10. They played against Animo Inglewood for 3 hours. Karina said that after their first inning “they adjusted and started to have fun with the game.”

Some players expressed their feelings after the loss, “I felt the girls did really good and we had been preparing for that.” said Kimberly Garcia. While Sandra Arellano “felt really good.”

Coach Karina said the softball girls were good “overall” during the game and added that they need to improve on batting and pitching. Karina also learned that the team “stays together and supports each other.”

Their next game is planned to be on December 15, 2018 as well as hopefully a tournament by February 2019 where they will hopefully win.
