Basketball Coach Soloman Lovejoy, who had been absent since summer break, made a surprise farewell announcement on September 15th to the Animo Pat Brown basketball team.
“I won’t be returning to APB for this school year as a substitute or as your basketball coach,” said Lovejoy.
Lovejoy explained that he would not be returning because he is pursuing his teaching credential. “I tried really hard to get placed at APB for the year, but I learned on Friday I am being sent to another school,” he said.
He shares that he cares about his players in the message saying “I tried to give you guys my best, to do a good job, and to be there for you guys on and off court and push you as basketball players and as young men.”
Lovejoy also mentioned his successor, Coach Jordan, who was hired by Mr. Cieply. “I hope he is a better coach than I am and is able to continue to teach and develop you all as players and young men,” Lovejoy remarked.
Though he will no longer be the coach, Lovejoy assured the team that he would still support them.
“I will go to a couple of your guys’ games this year and be following your season on Maxpreps! I have love for you all, and see a version of myself in each and every one of you.” Lovejoy said.
Lovejoy concluded his farewell with a heartfelt message: “You can always reach out to me anytime. Good luck on the upcoming season, I wish you nothing but the best. Play as a team, and go Gryphons!”
Coach Lovejoy’s departure marks the end of an era for the Gryphons, but his influence and support will undoubtedly continue to inspire the team.
