Juan Izquierdo, a 27 year-old defender for Nacional, tragically died after collapsing during a Copa Libertadores game against Sao Paulo in Aug.22.
Izquierdo fell to the ground unconscious in the 84th minute without coming into contact with another player. He was taken off the pitch in an ambulance before being treated at the intensive care unit of Albert Einstein Hospital, at the hospital Juan Izquierdo had died as result of cardiopulmonary arrest associated with cardiac arrhythmia.
Carlos Robles, a dedicated soccer fan,shared, “Juan Izquierdo’s sudden death on the field was shocking, especially since he was only 27. It must have deeply affected the younger players, showing them that this could happen to anyone.”
Juan Izquierdo played 7 months for Nacional he was transferred from Liverpool Fc for approximately 800k Euros. He was only begging to make his mark on the team.
Dyleen Velasco, the Animo Pat Brown goalkeeper, says, “ Juan Izquierdo’s death is sad, especially since he was a talented player for his team. To prevent similar incidents, athletes need proper training and preparation for games,” he advised.
Dayleen tells us to take proper care and be aware of ourselves, especially the upcoming youngsters. Also, take some rest, never push yourself to the limit, just limit yourself.
Jordy Garica, the Animo Pat Brown soccer player, says, “ I was shocked when Juan Izquierdo, who was young and talented, collapsed in the middle of the field. A soccer team can work together to stay healthy as possible to prevent health issues, through habits like eating well and exercising regularly. It’s likely that young players are now afraid of experiencing something similar,” Garica said.
In light of Juan Izquierdo’s death, coaches and team managers should be more vigilant about their players’ health and habits. This tragic event is a stark reminder of the importance of health and safety in sports.
