Animo Pat Brown Students react and talk about the new phone policy this school year.
Starting this 2024-2025 school year, Animo Pat Brown (APB) has implemented a new Yondr pouch policy. The policy requires students to lock their phones in special pouches until the end of the school day. APB students have a lot to say about this change.
Each morning, APB students turn off their phones and place them In green and gray Yondr pouches. These pouches remain locked throughout the school day. To unlock their phones, students must wait in long lines to use the school’s designated magnet stations.
Animo Pat Brown students had a lot to say about the new rule
Destiny Cervantes a senior at Animo Pat Brown ,”I was annoyed when I heard about the Yondr pouches because I felt like they could’ve spent their money on something better,I feel like it takes longer to leave the building at the end of the day cause it gets super crowded with everyone lining up”
Mauricio Lopez another senior at Animo Pat brown said “My reaction to
the Yondr pouches are negative because I recently had lost my pouch because someone had took it and I wasn’t in class because I went to go look for it, I spent an hour outside of class because I can’t call my phone or check Its location because its off so in any emergency of losing my pouch I don’t know where My phone is so that’s why I don’t like the pouches”
One thing I learned about APB students and their reaction to the Yondr pouch is having to unlock their pouch at the end of the day. The issue is that the hallways, and school exits can get crowded or take a long time to unlock their pouch or leave the campus.
Mareeli Huerta, another senior from Animo Pat Brown said “Ah, it was confusing. But now it’s like, I guess, I honestly think that they’re not a good thing and I feel like they could have spent their money on something else.”
With the Yondr pouch the main goal was to see if students improve in their studies and to get student more social
Destiny said, “Personally they haven’t helped me focus or been a distraction either. I don’t see a difference in any of my habits.”
The view is that Yondr Pouches are in the middle where it can help with studies, and results in students grades or sometimes there won’t be any differences
Mareeli said , “it helped me focus a little but it feels the same at the same time, and when it comes to socializing, it has helped because it feels like i am forced to talk to more people but it is hard to focus because now more people are talking in class”
Most of the seniors do have negative thoughts about the Yondr pouch 6 weeks in the school.
The Yondr pouch policy Is still In effect, and students continue to have mixed feelings about It. While some acknowledge It helps them focus a bit more, many believe the money could have been better spent on other educational resources. As the school year progresses, it will be interesting to see if opinions change or remain the same.
