On the weekend of May 30th and 31st, and Tuesday, June 2nd, there were election voting days. These days were very important as many people were allowed to vote for many candidates. Not only that, but there was a race to choose who the governor of California would be.
This year, APB’s government/economics teacher, Mr.Snyder, gave all the senior students at APB the opportunity to work at the elections.

APB seniors really took advantage of this since they were also getting paid, which can help them a little now that seniors are going off to college.
Amy Zavala, an election worker, shares her experience while working at a voting center. “I expected more people to come out and vote, but overall I’m glad I got to assist people as they voted.”

Although the first two days of the voting elections were slow, many people attended the last day, which made up for the other days, as a large number of people went to vote. This emphasizes the importance of voting because you are the change. When you vote, you’re advocating for your needs and your community!
Andrea Tlaseca, another poll worker, shares her experience on her site. “My favorite part was that it was very meaningful because there were a lot of Hispanic elderly people who wanted to be involved, but they didn’t know how to work the machines so I was there to help them, and seeing the smiles on their faces made me feel accomplished. Yeah, it was fun, it was easy, it was worth it, and it made me feel good about myself.”
If we want to continue a democracy, we have to involve citizens and vote in every election. We need to recognize the importance of these elections and motivate young adults to participate in events like these.
