During the second semester many seniors at Animo Pat Brown have more free classes especially during the last periods. Now that application season is over many seniors don’t have an overworked schedule. Due to this case I believe seniors should be able to sign out on their own without a parent or guardian coming to sign them out.
I have talked to a couple of seniors about how they feel about this and the result was that they all agree. Seniors like Amy Zavala and Melissa Garcia have the same opinions about this topic. They felt like during their last periods they have a lot of free time and usually don’t have work to do and would wish to sign out on their own.
Which dives into the first of three reasons I believe seniors should be able to sign out. I see that many students in my classes seem to just be on the computers because they finished all of their work. Which I feel isn’t that productive, if students were given the opportunity to sign out they could go home and get other work done and do something more productive then sitting in class and not doing anything
The second reason would be that there could be limitations involved with this. Meaning if this would be allowed I believe that the senior would have to be 18 years old to sign out because they will be fully responsible for what they do. Along with a parent consent form letting the office know the parents are okay with the student signing out alone.
This would cause there to be a safe and successful move because both the office and parents would be okay with it. And the seniors will be responsible for anything they miss during class.
The last reason would be that many seniors have jobs and have to leave home early. With this many seniors come driving on their own to school which makes it a little difficult for them since they will be in a rush going to work right after school. With the topic of letting seniors sign out they will be able to leave 10 minutes before school ends so they won’t leave in a rush.
Ultimately, I believe that this topic should be considered for seniors. And can become successful since there are many high schools that offer seniors to sign out during free periods and nothing bad has happened previously. Adding this would make senior year feel less stressful because you are given the option to go home early when necessary.
