Why not a Nutrition Program for APB?

By Silvia Padilla and Joanna Juarez

Every morning, students would wake up, put on their uniform, and expected to have an exquisite breakfast before going to school. However, students would rather have a little to no breakfast and eventually starve themselves during class. Students would skip their breakfast just to arrive to school on time and wait for two class periods to pass before heading out to lunch. But without breakfast, students would have a harder time focusing on their academics while having less energy. So, should APB have a breakfast program? Will it actually affect students into having more energy and more focus on their schoolwork?

During their first period class, students would have a difficult time trying to concentrate on their studies while they are starving before lunch period. Some students would bring junk food or sugary drinks to wake themselves up during class. Even if students had breakfast, they still don’t get enough energy to stay focus on their classes.

“While going to school”, said 11th grader Daniela Ramos, “I usually eat a simple sandwich. I don’t think I have the time to eat a full breakfast before school”.

Without nutrition, students become somewhat brain-dead and can eventually affect their grades. Students would fall asleep the whole period and can be left behind on their lessons or assignments.

“I would always feel hungry and tired during class,” says 12th grader Alexis Ortiz, “It could be that I don’t eat breakfast before school.”
Many students believe that it would be better to have a breakfast program that can provide a nutritious meal forFullSizeRender each student at APB rather than falling flat due to the lack of energy. Most students rely on vending machines with chips and other sorts of junk food or wait until after school to actually get a nutritious meal. However, when vending machines were taken down, students forced themselves to have lunch in which they find it unsatisfying. Plus, students would feel even more exhausted and not listening to their teachers. It isn’t beneficial for students to skip breakfast and spend in class sleeping or eating unhealthy snacks until lunch. Having a breakfast program at APB can help students to have more vitality on their schoolwork and not feeling so hungry.
